<div itemprop="description">It is with sadness, but fond memories, that we announce the peaceful passing of Ron Anstey, surrounded by his wife and family in the comfort of his home. Ron had battled cancer for the past year, yet in this challenging time and with his positive attitude he still enjoyed life to the end. Ron is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Joan; daughter, Karen (Don) Filteau; son, Dale (Bernell) Anstey; grandchildren Nicole, Janelle and Travis Filteau, Mitchell and Mathew Anstey; sister, Marlene (Allan) Thorlakson; nephews, Shane (Denise), Brad (Mirianne) and Dean (Bonnie) and their children; brother-in-law Graham (Audrey) Ritchie. He was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Edna Anstey, special aunt, Emily and his in-laws, Bill and Ruby Ritchie. Ron was born in Saskatoon, where he began his schooling at Wilson Elementary. In 1947 his family moved the business, Anstey Electric Hatchery Ltd. to Kelowna B.C. due to Ron’s asthma. He graduated from Grade 13 in Kelowna in 1955 and in 1956 the Anstey family moved back to Saskatoon, where Ron began his career full-time in the hatchery business. He took over as manager after the sudden passing of Percy in 1966. The growth of the family operation’s 83 year history has been something that Ron has taken great pride in. Even after a long hospital stay this past year, Ron battled back to be able to spend some time at the office he so enjoyed. Ron was inducted into the Saskatchewan Poultry Hall of Fame in 1998. His father, Percy Anstey had previously been bestowed with that honor in 1977. Music was one of Ron’s many talents. He played saxophone and clarinet in the 23 Wing Air Force Band, the HMCS Unicorn Band, the Saskatoon Concert Band and various dance bands. Ron and Joan were charter members of the Cosmopolitan Couples Club for many years. Ron’s greatest love of all was spending time with family and friends at the cabin at Anglin Lake and many camping trips in the motorhome to Loon Lake and other points of interest. He and his wife, Joan enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Alaska, the Maritimes and bus tours throughout Canada and the United States. Boating, water skiing, downhill skiing, curling, snowmobiling, bowling and golfing were activities Ron enjoyed with family. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1:30pm with a public visitation at 12:45pm, both at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd). Donations in Ron’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.hillcrestmemorial.ca.</div>
