Norman James Fowler passed away December 11, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Katherine (Kay); sister, Evelyn Carswell of Ottawa; brother, Donald Fowler (Bev Benson), and sisters-in-law, Stella Devernichuk, Helen Fowler and Lois Fowler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Minnie and Francis Fowler; brother, Ken Fowler; brothers-in-law, Peter and Michael Turkiewich; and sister-in-law, Ann Evans.

Norm worked in the composing/typesetting room of the Star-Phoenix from the age of 18 until his retirement at age 55. Norm was a gentle soul with a good sense of humour. He was a conscientious handyman, doing all his own house repairs and improvements. He believed if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing right!

Norm and Kay had a cabin at Poplar Beach on Wakaw Lake for a number of years. They enjoyed hosting extended family members. Boat rides, fishing and berry-picking were popular activities. He enjoyed hunting wild game and birds in the Porcupine Plains area with his brother-in-law, Pete, an activity they pursued for decades.

Norm and Kay were members of the Hub City Square and Round Dance Association and enjoyed square dancing for many years. From 1984-90, they co-edited the association's bulletin. Norm & Kay traveled to Australia and New Zealand with square dancing friends. They also traveled to the Maritimes and to the west coast by RV. They did some sightseeing trips into the States by car.

To keep active and busy, Norm went to work in the paint and hardware dept. of WalMart in 2007. He was a familiar face in the store for nine years. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Paul's, Preston Park II Transitional, Saskatoon City Hospital Transitional, and Sunnyside for the care and compassion they showed to Norm. The family would also like to thank the neighbours and long-time friends the Sheppards, Seredas and Mike Grieman for their support.

Donations in Norm's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., first right past Briargate Rd).
