Ethel May Julseth
January 9, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our treasured mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Friday, January 9, 2015 with her family by her side. Mom was born in Sunderland, England on January 13, 1924. After losing her Mother at a very young age, she attended Miss Sharman's boarding school in London before joining the RAF at the age of 17 during World War II. During her service, she drove ambulance and staff cars and it was at this point where she met the love of her life, Walter Nelson Julseth, who was a Corporal with the RCAF. Their marriage took place in Barmby, England on July 27, 1944 and they came to Canada shortly after to start their life. This was the beginning of over 50 years of happiness. Together they settled in Plenty, Saskatchewan, where they farmed and raised their six children. Mom was a very caring, generous and creative person, and these are only a few of her qualities, including her wonderful sense of humor and being able to deliver the best one-line zingers that would leave you speechless. Mom taught herself to do everything, including cooking, baking, cake decorating, sewing, crocheting, knitting, custom flower making and we all have fond memories of elaborate cakes for school parties, Galloping Gourmet meals and handmade cowachins. She always had time to do all this and there was never any complaining about driving six kids to every activity available including music lessons and band practice as music was always very important to Mom. In the later years Mom and Dad enjoyed many summers sailing at Lake Diefenbaker and winters in Arizona, always entertaining lots of family in both places. Mom was an active member of the War Bride Association and took great pride in taking the War Bride train back to Pier 21 in Halifax on the 50th Anniversary. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Walter Nelson in 1995, and her brother Les Wood in 2007. Mom is survived by her six children: Gary (Judy) Julseth; JeAnne Nichol; Glenn (Joan) Julseth; Janice Meakin; David Julseth; Linda Julseth (Les Prescesky); grandchildren: Kevan (Carmen) Julseth; Brian (Cherise) Julseth; Shane Julseth; Dennis (Val) Paquette; Cara (Ben) Rice; Pamela (Brent) Munkholm; Lisa (Matt) Finch; Krista Julseth; Lucas Julseth; Jennifer (Chanss) Lagaden; Kady Meakin; Amy (Michael) Fendelet; and twenty four great-grandchildren. The Celebration of Ethel’s Life will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., first right past Briargate Road). A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Paula Olson.
