It is with great sadness, that the family of Dolor (Del) Grisé announces his passing in the early morning of November 6, 2015 at the age of 83. Left to mourn are his daughter Marilyn (Chris Gerwing), grandchildren Lindsey Gerwing (Jonn Lovick), Eric, Paige and Aiden Gerwing as well as great-grandchildren Olivia and Harrison Lovick. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Rosella Grise, as well as many beloved siblings and in-laws. Del was born the eleventh of sixteen children. His childhood was spent on the family farm in St. Denis, Saskatchewan. The 30’s were tough times and the family worked hard to survive. This hard work defined Del’s character, a virtue he would possess his whole life. As a young man he left the farm and moved to Saskatoon and it was there that he met a young nursing student, Rosella. They married in 1959 and had their only child; a daughter, Marilyn, the following year. Their devotion to each other was apparent. Rosella cared for Del for much of her life due to his struggles with Diabetes. Del, repaid her kindness by providing loving care to her in their final years together at Samaritan Place.
Del worked a variety of jobs in his lifetime, but most of his working career was spent at City Hospital until he retired in 1993. Much of his time following retirement was spent at the family cabin at Wakaw Lake or with his grandchildren. Both brought him immense joy. Del was a soft spoken, kind and generous man. He was always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, coworkers and neighbors. If you would like to honor the memory of Dolor, please follow his example and pay it forward with a random act of kindness. An endowment fund was established by Rosella & Dolor at Saskatoon City Hospital. Monies donated will be used to provide for various items that enhance patient care. This was a cause dear to both he and Rosella. In lieu of flowers if you wish to donate to the Rosella and Dolor Grisé Patient Care Endowment Fund, please contact the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation Office at (306) 655-8489. Online condolences may be sent from www.hillcrestmemorial.ca The funeral mass for Del will be held on Friday, November 13, at 10:00 am at St. Anne’s Parish (217 Lenore Drive, Saskatoon). Please note time change. Arrangements entrusted to Wally Markewich.
