<div itemprop="description">It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jon Gudmundson, at Samaritan Place in Saskatoon after a brief illness. He is survived by his sister Gudrun; his children Eric (Alison Haynes), Signy Hazelwanter, Stefan (Valerie) and Kristjana; the mother of his children, Virginia Gudmundson; and Evelyn’s children Ron, Karen, Candace and Michael. Predeceased by his parents Simon and Pearl (Nordahl), his brother Brinki, and his wife of 27 years Evelyn Gudmundson. Jon grew up in the Icelandic community of Arborg, Manitoba. After graduating from the University of Guelph with a degree in veterinary medicine he returned to Morden, Manitoba, to start his own veterinary practice. Years later he moved to Saskatoon to continue his education at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, remaining to serve as a faculty member until his retirement. Jon also took care of large animals at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm. Hunting, fishing and travelling were some of his favourite pastimes. He enjoyed exploring the world with Evelyn. Jon suffered from dementia over the last six years, but never lost his sense of humour and gentle smile. May he rest in peace. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Samaritan Place and Circle Drive Special Care Home for their respectful care and compassion for Jon. Also special thanks to Karen and Wray Davis for their help these last years. Funeral service will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd.) at 10:00 AM Monday, May 30, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jon’s memory may be made to Samaritan Place (375 Cornish Road, Saskatoon, SK S7T 0P3) or the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Arrangements entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home.</div>
