<div itemprop="description">Don, a beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandpa passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital on Saturday, April 15, 2017 with his family by his side. Don was predeceased by his father Robert, his mother Gladys and his brother Ernie. Don is survived by his wife of 60 years Arla, son Brent, daughter-in-law Teresa and grandson Carter. Don will also be fondly remembered by his sister Grace Basso, sister-in-law Anne McFadzen, brother Wilfred (Sharon) McFadzen and many special nieces and nephews. Don spent the majority of his working career as an auto mechanic, with a dedicated client base that followed him wherever he went. Don had a passion for his vehicles, and for anyone who knew him, they would agree that his cars were always given his special touch. Music was also a big part of Don’s life. As a founding member of The Saskatoon Polka Kings, he enjoyed playing his guitar at weekend dances for almost 50 years. Don always appeared to be quiet and reserved, but once he strapped on his guitar, he was in his element and you could see the enjoyment that music brought him. Many thanks to Dr. Kelsey Brose, Dr. Nabil Asfour and all of the nurses, doctors and care providers at St. Paul’s Hospital 6th Floor Medicine for their kindness, care and compassion. A Celebration of Don’s life will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., first right past Briargate Rd). This will be a time for all of us to share special memories and stories, in a relaxed setting. There will be a Private Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Don’s name may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation (3602 Millar Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7P 0B1). Arrangements entrusted to Lisa Bos.</div>
