It is with sadness that the family of Katherine Polovick announces her peaceful passing on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Mom was born in Ituna, Saskatchewan to Mary and Samuel Uchacz. She was one of 13 children and attended school in Ituna then business college in Regina where she met the love of her life, George Polovick, an army friend of her brother, Joe. George and Kay were married in October of 1947. They settled in Clavet in 1963, living there for the next 40 years. She was a homemaker for many years and after raising 4 kids rejoined the workforce. She was employed by Stodola Concrete in Sutherland for 10 years. Our parents raised us in a warm, loving environment that was filled with wonderful family celebrations and much laughter. Mom instilled in us the belief that we could accomplish whatever we set out to do. An amazing cook, when invited to their house for dinner, it was a “buffet”. Growing up, we always had fresh bread, cookies, and her famous cinnamon buns as well as vegetables and fruit from her huge garden. Christmas was a special time for her and mom spent weeks preparing. We had the traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner with all the courses. Friends and neighbours were always welcome in their home. Her dedication to her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews was heartwarming. She was happy with all of her children’s accomplishments and made each of her grandchildren feel special. An important person in all of her grandchildren’s lives, she never forgot a birthday or special occasion. Each one knew how important they were to her. When our parents needed extra help, Stensrud Lodge became their home. The staff gave our parents excellent care. When dad passed, they shared in our sadness and showed our mom extra TLC. We are very thankful and appreciative for their care, allowing our mother to live her last few years with dignity. Katherine was the devoted mother to Greg (Beth) Polovick, Jeff (Jackie) Polovick, Marie (Rich) Docekal, and Tanja (John) Grabowski. She was the cherished grandmother of Tammy, Cindy, Erika, Anna, John, Kelsey, Tanja, Jeri-Lynn, and Todd and proud great grandmother of Daniel, Jake, Marcus, Rowan, Cassius, Tarek, Jayden, Owen, Olivia, Sophie, Ayden, and Hanna. Kay will be missed by her brothers Bill (Rosie) Uchacz, Benny (Helen) Uchacz, and sister Jenny (Ernie) Sali. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Kay’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., first right past Briargate Rd). Donations in Kay’s memory may be made to Stensrud Lodge (2202 McEown Ave. Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L6). Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Charmaine Menard.
