Helen Gladys Beare, born in Rose Valley, SK. Loyal wife and lifetime partner of sixty-three years to Earl O. Beare, perfect mother and best friend of Stephanie Portico K. Bowman. Helen was born August 27, 1934 and passed away peacefully on March 1, 2016. Helen was the Auntie, confidant and supporter of nieces and nephews Eleanor (Rick), Diane (Barry), Kathy (David), Neil (Sharon), Connie, Burc (Jollean), Terry (Irene), Len, Marj (Marc) and Shirley. Great Auntie to Shannon (Jay), Shawn (Jennifer) Harreson (Jan), Bharbara (Ted), Brandon (Michelle), Garrett (Nicole) and great, great Auntie to Sarah and Adam who lived closest to her, and many others further away. Helen was a dedicated sister-in-law to Alice (Rene), Myrna (Ralph) and Morris.
Although Helen has returned to the Light, our family is no less bright than when she was among us. Her living and dying has strengthened each of us. Helen departed gracefully and decisively under the expert and angelic care of St. Paul’s Palliative Care unit. We are grateful to her for this gift. Helen was predeceased by all of her immediate family: her parents John and Mary Greck who came from Poland in 1929 with brother and sisters Paul (Anne), Bernice (Gerry) and Mary (Earl) already born. Helen and her other brother Kazmir (Mina) would be born in Canada. Baby sister Joanna would die of whooping cough. Helen stepped bravely into every challenge and thrived on overcoming obstacles. She brought beauty to everything she created: sewing, painting, interior decorating and cooking. Helen was an avid traveler before her daughter was born, enjoying road trips with her young husband in any one of his "stallion" cars. When Helen was fifty-five she backpacked through Europe with her daughter. Helen pursued a career in a generation of women who pioneered roles as professionals outside the home. Helen enjoyed her career tremendously. She brought camaraderie, compassion and justice to the workplace. Each of her offices, beginning with Barker’s Insurance in Brandon, MB, benefited from her focus and efficiency. Helen, Earl and their daughter moved to Saskatoon in 1967 where Helen offered her most dedicated and cherished service to Mr. Harry Koehn of Plainsman Developments for over twenty-eight years. In 2000 Helen finally retired much to everyone’s dismay from Colliers International (McClockin’s) after conquering the challenges of property management for both this company and before them The Developers. In all these lives, young and old, some now gone, our family has been seeking peace and healing. Helen has now achieved this and we rejoice in that. A Service of Remembrance will be held Monday April 11, 2016 at 11:00am at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd). Interment to follow at Hillcrest Indoor Abbey Niche Structure. Online condolences may be sent from www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to Wally Markewich.
