<div itemprop="description">&ldquo;Roy&rdquo; Armstrong of Veteran&rsquo;s Village Sherbrooke Community Centre passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at the age of 96 years. Roy was born January 16, 1919 in Govan, Saskatchewan <br />to parents Frederick Armstrong and Agnes Mickeljohn McDougall. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Dorothy, Bert, Earl, Murray, and Evelyn. Roy will be missed by his children Donna Brownbridge, Colleen (Rick) Peasley, Tom Armstrong (Brenda), his eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and his extended families Cindy and Barry Finley and the Scherger family. Roy was widowed by Zoie Armstrong (Connon) in 1995 whom he was married to for 51 years. He married Ilene Scherger in 1997 and was widowed again in 2009. His love of music had him play trumpet and harmonica in various bands over the years and he especially enjoyed his good times with &ldquo;The Jammers&rdquo;. Roy was hired on CN Rail as a &ldquo;Call boy&rdquo; and he served in the Army in the 2nd World War overseas as a motorcycle dispatch rider with the Regina Rifles and following that as an ambulance driver with the 14th Field Ambulance Regiment. Following the war, he returned to CN and became a Conductor where he served many years on the CN rail liner until his retirement in 1979. He was so honoured to be asked to be Trainman on the Queen&rsquo;s Train and later was Conductor on Diefenbaker&rsquo;s Funeral Train. Recently, Roy was honored to be presented a medal with the rank of Knight of the French National Order of Legion of Honour by order of the Republic of France. He has enjoyed his many friends with the CN Pensioners, CN Curling Club, The Bentley, The Nutana Legion, The Jammers, Regina Rifles, residents of Brentwood Estates and his special friends in Holland, the &ldquo;Slinger&rdquo; family. Roy&rsquo;s family would like to thank his caregivers at Prairie Spring Care Home and Veteran&rsquo;s Village at Sherbrooke for their compassion and care while he lived at those residences. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roy&rsquo;s memory may be made to The Salvation Army (339 Avenue C South, Saskatoon, SK S7M 1N5). The Funeral Service for Roy will be held Monday, June 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd).
