With profound sadness, the family of Ella Billingsley announces that Ella passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016, at the age of 93. She is predeceased by her husband Lorne Billingsley, her parents Timofay and Yarina Naumetz, sisters Christine Lamb and Lahna Naumetz, and brother Percy Naumetz. Ella is survived by her children, Gary (Gwen Chappell) Billingsley and Dona (Glen Johnson) Billingsley; grandchildren Alyssa Billingsley and Alexander Billingsley; sisters Lillian Thompson and Effie (Basil) Harrison, several in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Born near Sarny, Ukraine, Ella and her family came to Canada in 1927 and settled in the Hubbard area of Saskatchewan where she grew up. She met and married Lorne Billingsley in 1948 and resided in Flin Flon, Manitoba for several years, then briefly in Winnipeg, before settling in the Mayfair neighbourhood of Saskatoon. Ella was active in the Mayfair Home & School Association, the Mayfair United Church and several other organizations. She and Lorne were avid gardeners and took great pride in growing fruit, winning many ribbons and awards at the Saskatoon Exhibition and in Saskatoon Horticultural Society shows. Another source of pride was the cabin at Blackstrap Lake that Lorne and Ella built themselves. Ella was also a dedicated bowler and won many bowling trophies over the years, staying active well into her 80s.

The Billingsley Family would like to thank the doctors, and especially the nurses and staff at the Extendicare Preston Special Care Home for their wonderful care, compassion and love shown Ella in the years she lived there.

A private family service was held at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Donations in Ella’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan (1405 Faulkner Cres., Saskatoon, SK S7L 3R5) or to any deserving charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Carley Brown.
